Outdoor Play Party - New Creative Outdoor Play Space in the City

It's time for the Outdoor Play Party. This week we have good news and sad news to share. The sad new is that Mama Pea Pod is taking a break from participating in the Outdoor Play Party. To be honest, Mama Pea Pod is one of the very first blogs I ever discovered. We are so sad to be losing her inspiring outdoor play posts. Here's hoping her break is short-lived and she'll join us again soon. Now, on with the good news. We are happy to introduce our newest partier...Flights of Whimsy! Flights of Whimsy is all about inspiring children to learn, explore and play. We cannot wait to see all the wonderful outdoor play ideas she will be sharing. Stay tuned for more exciting news...we have a couple of new co-hosts to introduce at the next Outdoor Play Party...we cannot wait. Now, on with the party.
With summer winding down we have been feverishly checking items off our to-do lists. One item was to visit the brand new Overpass Park. The city is growing and a new neighbourhood is being built where once there were factories and empty land. Fortunately, the planners have focused on creating fun outdoor spaces. A marsh and trail area has not been opened yet. But the uber-urban Underpass Park is ready to be played in. A park build under an overpass. Surrounded by concrete. Sounds desolate, but it's not.
The girls had a great time climbing, swinging and playing with the outdoor art installation of gigantic mirrors.

I find this space inspiring. On the opposite side of the main road, also under the overpass, are a few basketball courts and space for skateboarding. I love it when design embraces outdoor play and includes children's needs for connecting with their bodies and nature.

Here are a few inspiring posts from the last Outdoor Play Party that I would love to share with you.

Little Wonders' Day went on a bug hunt...this is a favourite activity of my kids too.

I love Train Up A Child's post all about playing with water, balls and babies! Fantastic and so much fun.

Stay At Home Educator showed us how to make a mud pit without making too much of a mess.

So many fabulous outdoor activities and stories linked at the last outdoor play party. If you were featured this week, go ahead and grab our "Featured at the Outdoor Play Party" button for your site.

Jen, I heard about this place recently and am so glad about it - what a great idea! It really seems like the city planners in TO are getting it together with many of the recent additions to the city in the last few years. Can't wait to try this place out next time we're there! I'm so happy to see that you guys are continuing the Outdoor Play Party, and hope to be back to join you again in the future. xx
