In this week's instalment of Kitchen Counter Confidential I would like to introduce you to a Canadian mom. I have been reading her blog for a very long time. Rebecca's site, A Little Bit of Momsense, is a wealth of amazing information for mom's...really anyone...out there. Rebecca is based in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. She writes funny and informative posts about raising kids, feeding kids and playing with kids.

Tell us 3 things about yourself
I studied History in University, I love card games and Trivial Pursuit, I love escaping in TV shows or movies.
Are you for, or against, small appliances on the kitchen counter?
Both. Certain ones should be there just for functional use (like the coffee maker) but others, like a food processor, take up too much space to be left out. Also, the KitchenAid stand mixer is a thing of beauty, so that's like art on your counter.
Name 5 things that are on your counter right now.
Toaster oven, coffee maker, stand mixer, knives, canisters (which now that I type this, I realize I haven't been using!)
What, if anything, would you change about your kitchen counter?
I would have more of it! Now that we are talking about renovating it, I guess this could happen, but space will always be an issue.
What is your favourite thing to do on your kitchen counter?
My favourite thing to do on my kitchen counter is serve food. I love setting up a buffet of goodies and snacks when we have company on the island and inevitably everyone gathers around talking and visiting in that area. There is something really special about it.
You have created "sister" sites for A Little Bit of Momsense...how did they come about? Can you tell us a little about them?
A Little Bit of FoodSense was a natural branch of A Little Bit of Momsense. I love to cook and would put recipes on the site (only a fraction of the ones I actually make though). I decided that some people love to cook, but may not want to read about potty training as well. So, I branced out to expand the audience. The recipes (mine and contributors) are meant to be delicious, but easy. These are tried and true and can be done with kids hanging off my legs!
Sense and Community was meant to include posts about community giving, social media - topics that I loved but wasn't sure if my Bit of Momsense readers were interested in. It highlights women in business and other topics. I still have no idea where I'm going with it, but I like being able to write about everything.
Winter in Ottawa can be pretty brutal, do you embrace the cold or hide from the cold?
Loathe the cold. But with kids, they get so excited by the snow, I force myself out so they can play. I guess it's just another thing we do as parents that we may not like, but they do. When my son was little, barely walking, I would drive him to parks with small slides and easy access to play in the snow. No idea why I did that! But I felt I should be embracing winter with him, I guess.
Thanks Rebecca! It is amazing how many people out there consider the KitchenAid stand mixer a piece of art...I'm sure there must be art exhibits out there with stand mixers involved! I also love how having children expands our experiences...sometimes it's as simple as getting us outside to face the cold weather. Thanks again!
Well, the snow has finally fallen in Toronto! And, in typical fashion we have realized, just this morning, that my daughter's snow pants were left behind at the skating rink last weekend. Awesome! So, it's back into her pants from last year she goes. I'm curious to see what the "lost and found" area at the skating rink is like.
Anyhow, hope the weather is good wherever you are...

stay safe and have a great weekend everyone!

I found your blog through A Peek Inside the Fishbowl's Sunday blogging comment challenge, and am glad I did. I enjoy A Little Bit of Momsense too, and when it comes to the title of your blog, well, I think my huge farm kitchen counter has seen everything on it ...lambs having limbs fixed, motors being repaired, robots being built, homework being done, and all the things regular people use counters for...you know, food creation.
