So, last week I skipped our Foodland Ontario calendar post because of a very important day, World Autism Awareness Day. We were too busy lighting things up blue! No, we didn't forget about our lovely Foodland Ontario calendar. This month Foodland Ontario's recipe is for a pizza featuring Ontario hot house produce. We took our inspiration from the recipe and searched out some Ontario produce at our local grocery store. Here is what we came up with.

2 balls of prepared pizza dough (our grocery store stocks fresh pizza dough)
¼ cup cornmeal or semolina flour
fresh mozzarella
1 cup passatta
basil
hot house tomato
prosciutto
1. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured counter. Allow the pizza dough to rest, then you can roll it more.
2. coat dough with passatta.
3. layer on toppings; basil, tomato slices, prosciutto and mozzarella.
4. Place pizza on parchment paper lined, inverted baking sheet (or rimless baking sheet).
5. Bake in a 450F oven for 20-25 minutes
Obviously, you can choose whatever topping you like. However, it is nice to pick hot house grown Ontario vegetables. My girls love pizza with pesto sauce instead of tomato sauce.
Do you investigate where your produce was grown at the supermarket? What is in season where you live right now? What is your favourite pizza topping?

Oooh, that looks good. We had a tradition for a while of making pizzas together for lunch on the weekend but we got out of the habit when our kitchen was demolished! One to rediscover I think 🙂
