We are always on the lookout for fun ways to celebrate International Women's Day and Women's History Month. We've created and shared IWD worksheets, IWD fact sheets, IWD activities, and booklists that feature amazing women. This time around we have designed three International Women's Day colouring pages for kids and adults too.

What is International Women's Day?
First up, you might be wondering what International Women's Day is. The first International Women’s Day was way back in 1911. IWD falls on March 8th and is a day to celebrate women’s accomplishments – economic, political, social, cultural, and more. Each IWD is also an opportunity to reflect on how we can improve conditions for women around the world. I imagine that it has a different meaning for different women around the world.
There are many ways to celebrate the day with your kids, your students and even yourself. One way we like to spend the day is by doing different activities that focus on the voices of remarkable women. I've designed these three colouring pages to do just that.

our IWD colouring page featuring Rosa Parks
our IWD colouring page featuring Malala Yousafzai
I wanted to include the inspiring words of women from around the world - since this is an International day of recognition. I was looking for women who kids might recognize and who they might want to learn more about. The three women I chose are Anne Frank, Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai. These women have and continue to have, a very real impact on the world we live in. Each of them has a uniquely inspiring story that everyone should learn more about and I hope these pages spark an interest in those who colour them.
First up is our International Women's Day colouring page featuring the words of Malala Yousafzai. This page is all about the global impact of her story, so it has a globe to be coloured. Encourage kids to colour the globe however they like - perhaps each continent is a different colour and the oceans are filled with fish. Have fun.
Next is our International Women's Day colouring page featuring the words of Rosa Parks. I loved the imagery of a large oak tree growing from a small acorn and made the oak tree the central feature of this colouring page. What will be inside the leaves of the tree? Kids could fill the tree with positive messages, their own inspirational quotations, animals, leaves or words that remind them of the strong women in their lives.
Finally, we have our International Women's Day colouring page that features the words of Anne Frank. Anne's story is a story of true perseverance and of seeing beauty in the most horrific of situations. This is why I chose to have a flower garden for this page. Wildflowers are the strongest flowers - growing where ever they can and in the harshest conditions. Kids can add more flowers if they like or simply fill this garden with beautiful colours.
As you can see, these colouring pages can be used as a jumping-off point for further learning or be used simply as colouring pages, it's up to you. You could print these pages on cardstock and pop them inside a frame and you have a beautifully inspiring poster to enjoy all year round.
