Over the last couple of months my daughters and I have been making our way through our collection of Dr.Seuss books. Our last adventure led us into an incredible Seussical Alphabet Scavenger Hunt. We also tried our hand at shadow puppetry via The Shape of Me and Other Stuff. Aside from the learning, reading and writing that my girls experienced through these activities - the amazing part was how my eldest daughter responded. My daughter picked up the next book in the pile, offered to read it to her sister and created her very own supporting activity. Awesome!
The book she chose was "Ten Apples Up On Top" a very familiar book to many people. Sitting on the couch she delighted her little sister by reading all about the dog and tiger who try so hard to out balance each other...until they finally decide to work together to reach their goal. When the reading was over, it was time for the creativity to begin.
My daughters sat down and created a list of items to be balanced on their heads.
Placemats, books, paper and clena exe (aka Kleenex)
The girls then proceeded to attempt to place the various items on their heads...all the while giggling away.
Sometimes the most enjoyable activities are the simplest activities. The girls read the book, created the activity and played. Seriously, what more could a mom ask for?

Love this! This is why it's so important just to let them be and see what they come up with on their own!

I love that your daughter created the supporting activity. She is modeling creativity and initiative for her younger sister too.
