Kitchen counter confidential is heading all the way to the west coast of Canada this week...Vancouver. Not only is Vancouver the home of lush greenery, it is also the home of Jenn Cole...my cousin-in-law. Jenn is a working, married mom with two sons, age 4 and 6. So, we know that her house is busy. But the question remains, is life in a west coast kitchen really any different then out here is central Canada?
Here's how Jenn answered the quiz...
Question 1: Tell us 3 things about yourself.
Answer 1:
- I live in the beautiful city of Vancouver, and would not consider raising my two energetic boys anywhere else
- I am learning how to knit
- I love live music.
Q2: Are you for, or against, small appliances on the kitchen counter?
A: I am all for small appliances on the counter. We have a tiny galley kitchen with little storage room, so we have to have most of our small appliances on the counter.
Q3: List 5 items that are on your kitchen counter right now.
A:
- KitchenAid Mixer
- Tassimo coffee maker
- left over lemon buttercream frosting
- Andrew's (husband) portable Playstation charging
- small bowl of kosher salt.
Q4: Name 1 thing you would change about your kitchen counter?
A: I would make it bigger. We have a 1200sq ft place, which is pretty decent size for west end Vancouver, but our kitchen is so small and enclosed compared to the rest of our place. We have future plans to renovate.
Q5: Favourite thing to do on your counter?
A: My favourite thing to do on my counter is make homemade pizza with my boys.
Thanks Jenn. Man, there are a lot of Kichen Aid Mixers on kitchen counters! Who knew?! Things on the west coast seem about the same as here in Toronto. If you want to live in the city you have to learn to maximize your small space...but the trade off is worth it. Funnily enough Jen confessed that she considered "clearing" her counter before taking the quiz...and then changed her mind. Like most mom's, everywhere, Jen has comes to terms with the state of her kitchen saying "It used to really bother me, but I am trying to better accept our mess and remember that we are a very busy family and it is not always possible to be neat and tidy." No truer words were ever spoken.
P.S. I'm pretty sure that the left over lemon buttercream icing is from a delectable recipe Jenn shared, and I am dying to make, for Earl Grey Tea cupcakes!

Great post, ladies! My first time seeing a Vancouver counter! My kids and hubby love earl grey tea so we'll have to try the cupcakes! Thanks for sharing and posting Jenn-s! I'm loving your KCC blog, can't wait to see what will be next... P.S.: Our front door is looking very Valentine-ish too, it was a great craft while fighting a bad cold!
