People ask me how I generate ideas for things to post about. The truth is I try and plan out my week and then bam! my kids ask to do something and my plan goes out the window. For instance, last night we walked in the door and the girls searched for their Playdoh. While they were able to find the giant bin of tools..there was no Playdoh to be found. What was I to do? Naturally, I had to make some play dough. How do you make play dough? Well, it is a lot easier than you might think. Takes about 5 ingredients and about 10 minutes...beginning to end. I'm sure there are many recipe variations out there. This is how we made it.
Ingredients
1 cup all purpose flour
½ cup salt
2 tablespoon cream of tartar
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup water
food colouring
Steps
1. in a saucepan, combine flour, salt, cream of tartar, oil and water
2. place saucepan over medium heat and stir constantly until a thick dough comes together - approximately 3-5 minutes
3. once the dough has come together roll it out onto the counter and knead until smooth
4. divide dough into smaller portions
5. use your thumb to make a shallow well in the dough ball and add 4 or 5 drops of food colouring into the well
6. knead the food colouring into the dough until you reach the desired colour
My girls LOVED this play dough. They especially loved the colours we created...very soft and spring-like. The tools came out and the creating began. They opened a store to sell their creations at. Anything that quietly entertains my girls and gets them using their imaginations, is a winner in my books! Enjoy!
Hot tip: store the dough in a resealable bags for up to two weeks
