Whenever we approach a holiday I pull out our holiday themed books. We have books about Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day and Thanksgiving. Each year we add a new book to the pile...or we head to the library and borrow themed books. In fact, when searching for books at the library here's a HOT TIP...the library (Toronto Public Libraries) have seasonal stickers placed on the binding of the books, so you can easily locate the appropriate books. Some of my daughters' favourite fall and thanksgiving books include...
Favourite Fall Books for Kids
Clifford - Leaf Season

Skip Through the Seasons by Stella Blackstone and Maria Carluccio

Strawberry Shortcake - Let's Go Apple Picking
The Jolly Barnyard - Golden Books
The Berenstain Bears - Give Thanks
This year my youngest daughter proclaimed that "The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks" is the best Thanksgiving book we own! As I reread the story to my daughter she began to cry as Sister Bear started to piece together that the family would be eating the turkey she has grown to love. My daughter empathized with Sister's emotions...it was impressive. The best part of the book is when Brother, Sister and Cousin Freddy decide to put on a play for their family before Thanksgiving dinner. This inspired me to approach my daughter's with this idea. So, the girls are working on a script, that will include their cousin, and that they can perform for our family! I cannot wait to see the show.
Here are a few more fall and Thanksgiving themed books for kids.
Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert - A man made of leaves, where will he blow?
Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert - Watch a child and the sugar maple tree he plants grow.
The Crooked Apple Tree by Eric Houghton - Siblings spend time with a crooked apple tree.
Picture a Tree by Barbara Reid - What do you see when you look at a tree?
What are you reading on these chilly fall days?
